Emotion's and Mindset
Frequently, books discuss managing your emotions. I can see the benefits of doing this. Emotions are tricky, but lately, I have come to the conclusion that my emotions need to be experienced and considered—what truly needs managing is my self-talk.
For example, after a long day at work, the experiences can create emotions like anxiety and sadness. If my self-talk in response to those emotions becomes, I want to quit or I am not capable of this job, that kind of self-talk isn’t helpful. On the other hand, saying, The day was awesome, and I learned so much can drift into toxic positivity.
Helpful self-talk sounds like this: The day was hard, challenging, and left me tired and sad, but I managed each situation to the best of my ability. I am equipped, capable, and confident. I will rest tonight and be back tomorrow. This kind of self-talk is beneficial and sets me up for success.
Reflection Question:
How can you reframe your self-talk to acknowledge your emotions while still fostering resilience and confidence?
