Joy Fuels Productivity

It took a while to realize that neglecting to engage in activities that brought me joy was not healthy. It was an easy trap to fall into. All it took was a simple mantra repeated in various forms and feelings.

Having fun leads to laziness. Joy is a form of privilege. This leads to an inner narrative that brings along statements that seem noble and sacrificial. For example, “There are people suffering in the world, so attempting to find joy is insensitive.”  That narrative kept me productive but unhappy until I realized that pursuing joy and happiness is hard work. Hard work that is worth it.  Joy doesn’t mean the end of productivity. Joy connects you with the purpose revealed by your productivity. What is your opinion of joy and productivity?
