Leave Behind
“ Leave behind that which does not serve you.”
I scratched that sentence into the sand while at the beach.
I then found myself in a position to have to implement the lesson I was attempting to teach myself at that moment.
I had finished reading some inspirational literature from the Bible. I was feeling very good about sending away all the bothered and irritated me.
I took a picture and planned to write a post about the topic.
As I was editing the picture, I discovered that you can see my shadow holding up the phone.
I was perturbed. Now someone will see this picture, scoff at me, call me an amateur, and remind me that I don’t belong here.
That was it. This was the entire sentence. What I needed to leave behind were the judgment and the criticism. So what, you are right self, I am not getting paid for my beach photography. And even though you think you will be judged or that people are going to make fun of you. It doesn’t matter; show your work anyway.
Leave it behind! Leave the shame behind, leave the criticism behind, because the truth is people have more things to worry about than your shadow hanging out in a picture, and if they did, so what.
No one is harmed by your shadow being in the image.
So pardon my shadow, ignore my mistake, but learn this lesson, Leave behind what doesn’t serve you.
What do you need to say goodbye to today?
