Tents and Pegs
One tends to think about the past and wish for events and outcomes to be different. However, it is also possible to consider the future and be more sad and anxious ,than optimistic. The truth of the matter is that the past can’t be changed. Even though the this is true, sometimes inside, it feels like there is a recurring thought that spins continually in the mind, then the feeling is like this. Imagine a tent peg being driven into the ground to hold a tent. The tent holds your choices, decisions, and consequences. The tent brings with it feelings. This is what it feels like inside. Imagine a tent peg has been driven into your chest, holding the tent which contains memories of regrets down. Any attempt to remove the tent peg is met with hostility.
It is time to realize that I am the one who set up the tent and drove in the tent peg.
Why does this need to be the only tent set up? Can we set up other tents and drive those pegs into the ground? Try this for every tent of regret over a decision you made that you wished had turned out differently; put up a tent that houses the memories and consequences of a choice that turned out well. So you can see the positive consequences of that choice in your life today. After that is over, build another tent. To close, look around your campground. You may see just as many tents of positive choices that turned out well for you. Then you can look up and say everything is ok. As I go on, I will continue to have to meet moments of crisis will wisdom and determination. Still, there will be other moments that I can meet with gratitude and appreciation. What tents are at your campground?
