Thoughts on self- care

Have you ever experienced self-care guilt? Self-care guilt is a term that means you believe either that taking care of yourself is selfish or that you shouldn’t be engaged in these practices, and if you are, something is wrong with you.

It manifests in my daily thinking patterns. To counter this, I first identified it as an unhealthy thought pattern. If I continued to shame myself and accuse myself of being selfish, I would only grow more anxiety and fear when my desire is to grow internal peace and joy.

The next realization was that I was participating in a thought pattern called disqualifying the positive. Self-care is a healthy activity. Similar to taking medicine daily. It does not indicate that I have experienced some sort of character flaw or I am a broken person. A reframe is that I am a person who puts in daily effort to ensure that I am healthy for myself and those I serve each day. What about you? What are your thought patterns around self-care
