Action over Rhetoric

Today is an interesting day. We are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States, and Donald Trump has taken the oath of office as the President of the country. In his speech, he said that he was going to work to make Dr. King’s dream come true. There is a lot in his rhetoric that can make me and others skeptical. I even pause and wonder how to reconcile this.

Then it hit me: I don’t need to. Reconciling the statements of politicians is not my assignment in this season. Instead, I can choose to continue the work of making things better for those around me by using the platform I have to serve. And this is something available to all of us. We have the tools and resources, but do we have the will?
