Internal Validation

Why is desiring a position for external validation potentially troubling? Positions come with responsibility, hard choices, effort, and inevitable criticism. External validation is fleeting—it’s an event tied to specific outcomes. For example, a sports team may win a championship and receive cheers for that moment, but the following year, if they lose, those cheers can quickly turn into boos.

This is why it’s essential to choose yourself and cultivate your own internal messages of validation. Be your biggest fan, because there may be times when you are your only fan.

Reflection Question:

How can you build a stronger sense of internal validation in your daily life?
