Disappointment
In 2020 The Atlanta Braves had a 3-1 lead in the NLDS over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They needed one more game to advance to the World Series and play for the World Championship. However, they lost the next three games, and the Dodgers went on to win the World Series.
The Braves went home disappointed. The hopes of a world championship were over.
This year the Braves and the Dodgers met again. They took a 3-1 lead again, this time though they won, and the Dodgers went home disappointed.
Disappointment is sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations.
It happens to all of us.
It is ok.
It happened to me just a few days ago. My family and I had been hoping and expecting for a personal dream to occur. Then it just didn't happen.
We were disappointed. Sad.
At this moment, it is tempting to want to rush ahead. Make changes, adjust, get back up.
There will be time for that. Yet, I had to take a moment to pause.
To reflect. To be sad.
Then I decided that many hopes and expectations are being fulfilled each day.
Friendship, Family, Beauty, Employment, Health, to name a few.
Experiencing the sadness of the disappointment allows me to move through the experience and come out the other side, healthy and healing.
The good news is that we get second, third, fourth, fifth, and many other chances to try again. Disappointments are a part of life, but they aren't all of life. So don't get stuck in disappointment. Instead, be sad; it will help you get unstuck.
