Playing through the pain

I am watching Patrick Mahomes play through the pain of an ankle injury sustained in the game today. When he was taken out of the game at one point by his coaches, he was visibly upset.

At that moment, you could see that his desire to play was greater than the pain he was experiencing. The desire to win and advance was more than desiring to comfort the pain he was experiencing.

It made me think about the life lesson at that moment. Our desire to be successful has to be greater than our desire for comfort and ease if we desire to complete our projects and accomplish our goals. This is not to be confused with a lack of self-care or being unhealthy.

The point is in everyday moments; we will be confronted with the knowledge that we need to do a little bit more and say no to the yearning to stop too early or not start at all. It is in those moments that our desire to finish or accomplish our goals needs to be stronger than our desire for short-term comfort. In your work, can you identify when you need to keep going and delay comfort for a later time?
