Internal Critics

Most of us who spend time working to serve others have heard of the term inner critic. The voice inside your head keeps you from pursuing your special projects and using your talents. The inner critic is you, and it sends waves of doubt and criticism into your body daily.

The good news is that you can defeat the critic. The work you do, the projects you share with the world. The people you help. These tactics nullify the inner critic.

The inner critic doesn't lie dormant and doesn't retreat with his head between his tail. No, he continues along his merry way. The critic morphs and becomes an internal distractor. Now instead of self-doubt and criticism, the critic moves you away from your work and suggests more work, other work, new projects, more goals, and you start them, and you finish them.

Something is missing. If you aren't careful, the critic will move you into constant motion and activity and separate you from joy, and gratitude, then we are right back where we began. Telling ourselves, we need to do more. That our efforts aren't enough, we haven't won enough awards, made enough money, helped enough people, etc. Stop! Right there! Stop. Pause. Look back, you serve people, you go to work each day. Be kind to yourself. Take the time to enjoy the journey you are on. Celebrate. Your efforts matter and you are making a difference.
