The end of the year.

The end of the year is today. The years seem to fly by. I recall when 1999 turned into 2000 and when 2019 turned into 2020. Last year everyone was rejoicing when 2020 turned into 2021. Now we are saying goodbye to 2021. What will 2022 bring? Heartache? Sadness? Joy?

We just don’t know yet. So I suppose the best way to prepare for 2022 is to accept what comes. The good and the bad, and all the in-between.

With patience, hope, and wisdom as my guide, my desire is to contribute, achieve, serve, enjoy, explore, learn and be devoted to those who rely on me.

As I reflected on the last days of the year, I decided that my word for 2022 would be optimism.

I found a simple definition-hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.

This is a good word for me. It is a challenge for me to be confident about a successful outcome. My mind tends to dwell on the worst possible outcome of situations, thinking in some bizarre way that if I expect to be disappointed, then I avoid disappointment. I laughed when MJ said this in the latest Spiderman movie. I related to that quote. It is not a quote I want to move forward in. I will do the hard mental work of being optimistic internally in 2022. Picking a word to end the old year and begin the new is a nice practice.
