Vicarious Experience

After a long, somewhat frustrating day, I scroll on Instagram. For some reason, lately, I have found myself drawn to individuals who car camp. It is fascinating to me. A single girl in Australia, a British woman and her boyfriend driving across Europe, and a single man in America make up my favorites. I watched the single man on Instagram talk about his Tinder date tonight. This led me to head over to his life-streaming channel, and I watched him cook his dinner on a camping stove outside his car in a parking lot. As I was watching this, I asked myself, "Why am I watching this? Is there a term that describes what I am doing? There is; it is called- "vicarious living" or "vicarious experience. Here is the definition:" It's a psychological phenomenon where people find themselves engrossed in the experiences of others, even if those experiences are vastly different from their own life choices or desires. So that's it. I have no desire to ever live in my car. Still, for some unknown reason, I enjoy participating in their experiences. What do they see about me? What does it say about us? Hmmmm
