Everyday.
Everyday. Do something every day. Is it hard for you, or is it easy?
In the easy category, I would place getting dressed, eating, I wake up, go to bed, and walk around; these are activities I do every day.
In the harder category, writing, posting to my blog, exercising, saving money.
These are goals. I have to put a lot of thought and effort into these each day.
I could fill both lists with items. This is just a shortlist. How about you?
What is easy?
What is hard ?
Why is it easy to do one set and not the other?
One thought is baggage, thought baggage, I will call it. Ideas that come along when I decide to do something.
For example, putting on underwear or socks, no thought at all. I just grab what’s in the drawer and am thankful I have clean pairs.
Clothes sometimes involve a bit more thought, but it is usually centered around what will occur during the day. If I am going to work, work clothes if I am at home, chill clothes.
Clothes can be tricky, a gateway into how we operate. This is where thought baggage arrives.
I want to look a certain way, I want to impress a certain person, and we choose what to wear. Our thoughts guided us but were focused on the goal. Getting an outfit and leaving the house.
Now back to another goal: to exercise, play music, write, or eat healthily.
We set out with good intentions, do it for a few days, then the thought baggage comes in, it can take all sorts of forms; for example, mine shows up as, “ What will people think”? Or “ You can’t do this, etc.
Then I stop, give in to the thoughts, and don’t do what I wanted to. I don’t write, I don’t exercise, I eat the wrong food, etc.
Now I never do that with clothes. For example, I never give in to the thoughts and then say, oh well, I am just not going to wear clothes today, then either sit down naked and never leave the house, or worse, walk out of the house naked. If the latter of those two occurred, I would be writing from a hospital or correctional facility because public nudity isn’t condoned where I live.
There is a disconnect. We would never talk ourselves out of wearing clothes in public, so why talk yourselves out of pursuing your goals?
So if you are pursuing something. Do it every day, just like putting on clothes.
